JODHPURS Top

All sizing information is provided with each individual product. We suggest that you carefully take your inside leg and waist measurements.

Please note that when your jodhpurs arrive, they may appear shorter than the size ordered. This is perfectly normal, as jodhpurs are made from stretch materials and will need to be worn. Please try on your jodhpurs to ensure their fit is correct. If you have any concerns about the size of the jodhpurs you receive, please check the manufacturer's label and the Ifield Park ticket to check they match the size indicated on your order.

HATS Top

Measure the circumference of your head just above the ears. For accuracy, we advise you measure in centimetres, not inches. For conversion to the riding hat or jockey skull sizes, please refer to the size guide panel below.

Hat Standards

Since January 1998, the British Horse Society made compulsory as a minimum requirement hats with the BSEN1384 standard. Hats with the PAS015 standard exceed BSEN1384 and are accepted. This ruling will apply to BHS affiliated competitors, BHS examinations and will be enforced by the BHTA, The British Endurance Riding Association and Riding Clubs. The BHS also strongly recommends that all riders wear BSEN1384 or PAS015 compliant hats.

BRIDLES Top

When purchasing a new bridle, we suggest that you order the same size as the one you are currently using, providing you are satisfied it is a good fit. Alternately, you can use the following as a general guide:

Pony Size:                                                        11.2 14hh

Cob Size:                                                         14.2 15hh

Full Size:                                                          15.2 17hh

SADDLES Top

When purchasing a new saddle, we recommend that provided you are satisfied with the fit, you measure the saddle you are currently using from mid point on the stud at the front, in a diagonal line to the back of the cantle. This should give you an approximate guide to the seat size you require. Alternatively, we suggest you use the following as a general guide:

12.213.2hh:                                                    14" 15"

13.215hh:                                                       15" 16"

over 15hh:                                                       16½" or 17"

You should take into consideration that sizes may vary slightly dependent upon size of rider, the horse's shape and the length of the horse's back. The most accurate way to measure for the width of the saddle is to mould a wire coat hanger to the horse's withers, draw around it and cut it out. Alternatively, you could measure across your existing, well fitting saddle below the cut back head, just above the padding for the knee rolls. For example a medium fit for a large saddle measures approximately 4", while a wide fitting would measure approximately an inch wider.

BITS Top

To measure a bit's width, straighten the bit loosely and measure the mouthpiece between the inside edges of the cheeks, eggbutts or ring holes.

We suggest that, if possible, you measure a bit that you currently use and are satisfied provides a good fit. When your new bit arrives, hold the two bits together to double-check the size will be correct for your horse. Please take care when sizing new bits in your horse's mouth as we cannot accept returned bits if they are mouth-damaged. As a general guide, we suggest the following sizes:

inches                          cm

Welsh                       3-½                              9

Shetland                    4                                  10.5

Pony                          4-½                              11.5

Cob                           5                                  12.5

Horse                       5-½                              13.5

X Large                    6                                  14.5

The sizes Welsh, Shetland, Pony, Cob, Horse and Extra Large will generally indicate the correct size bit. However, some horses may need a slightly wider or smaller bit.

A correctly fitted bit should have a gap of at least 1/4 inch between the ring or cheek of the bit and the corner of the horse's mouth on both sides. To check the fit of a jointed bit, stand in front of the horse and pull at both rings to straighten the bit in the horse's mouth.

Please do not use your bit until you are completely satisfied that the size you have ordered is correct. Ifield Park accepts no liability for any circumstances arising from the use of an incorrectly fitted bit.

RUGS Top

All rugs sold by Ifield Park have been manufactured to the specific designs of BETA (British Equestrian Trade Association) Members. Materials and fittings used in the manufacture of all rugs are suitable to withstand a horse's strength, but please note that for horse safety it is essential that all materials have a breaking point. It would be dangerous to make a rug so strong that it would not give way if the horse were to get caught up.

It is impossible to have a rug that is 100% waterproof. The most that you should expect is that it will keep the worst of the weather off your horse. Ideally, you should always be prepared to change a rug that has been subject to heavy rain for a spare dry one and allow the original to dry off. Do not wait until things go wrong before you have a contingency plan.

Adapted from the 'BETA' rug guide provided free with every rug.

How to measure for a rug

If you do not have an existing rug to measure, you may well have to measure the horse. The measurement should be taken from the centre of the animal's chest where the front of the rug would be, around the shoulder and on a continuous straight line to the point level with the top of the tail. This is much more reliable than merely depending on the height of the horse.

BODY PROTECTORS Top

The BETA standard for horse riders' Body and Shoulder Protectors has specific tests to establish the performance of garments under impact. There are three colour coded categories of protection:

Class 1 (Green Label) Protectors providing a lower level of protection than Class 2 protectors. These protectors are probably only acceptable in low risk situations.

Class 2 (Orange Label) Protectors providing a normal level of protection. These protectors should be suitable for general use.

Class 3 (Purple Label) Protectors providing enhanced protection. These protectors should be suitable for use in higher risk situations and by older riders with more brittle bones, or by riders desiring better protection than that provided by Class 2 protectors.

WARNING

Injuries should be reduced in severity, but cannot be entirely prevented. Body Protectors do not offer spinal protection or prevent injuries involving severe torsion, flexion, extension or crushing of the body.

The standards adopted by the BRITISH EQUESTRIAN TRADE ASSOCIATION are now widely recognized throughout the world.
